What's your passion? Do you want to be an architecture critic? A movie reviewer? A journalist specializing in music, theater or fine arts? A commentator on popular culture or TV critic? Or an arts and entertainment editor?

We invite you to spend the next year making your dream come true by honing your writing and journalism skills and deepening your knowledge of the arts.

The Goldring Arts Journalism Program at Syracuse University is the first master's degree program in arts journalism at an accredited journalism school. Based at the renowned S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, the program is a collaboration with the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Visual & Performing Arts, and the School of Architecture.

The intensive 12-month program begins in July and includes a mix of communications and cross-disciplinary arts courses tailored to your educational goals. Students pursue a concentration in a specific area—architecture, film, music, popular culture, television, theater or visual arts. Classes take place on the campus of Syracuse University. Students will travel to New York City for an arts immersion course, gain professional experience through internships at newspapers or magazines, attend theater, music and opera performances and film screenings, and visit art galleries and architectural sites. An international travel experience is included with the international cultural travel writing course.

Students will study with an array of professionals, academics and artists on the faculty at Syracuse University, as well as take workshops with guest faculty who are nationally recognized arts writers and editors. Some of the distinguished visiting faculty have included Alex Ross (Music, The New Yorker), Tim Griffin (Fine Arts, Editor in Chief, Art Forum), Robert Ivy Jr. (Architecture, Editor in Chief, Architectural Record), James Oestreich (Music Arts & Leisure Editor, The New York Times) and Michael Feingold (Theater, The Village Voice).

The program and special financial aid for qualified students have been made possible by a generous gift from arts patron and Syracuse University trustee Lola Goldring and her husband Allen.
