David Sterritt is film critic of The Christian Science Monitor, where he has also written on music and other arts. He is chairman of the National Society of Film Critics, co-chairman of the Columbia University Seminar on Cinema and Interdisciplinary Interpretation, has served twice as chairman of the New York Film Critics Circle, and has been a juror at international film festivals. His commentaries are heard extensively on TV and radio and he has lectured at the National Gallery of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and other venues. He served for several years on the New York Film Festival selection committee at Lincoln Center, and has published books on Alfred Hitchcock, Jean-Luc Godard, Robert Altman, the Beat Generation, and other subjects. His articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Journal of Aesthetics and Arts Criticism as well as many anthologies.
